Our Korean young adults living in the 21st century do not feel much pain about their nation’s "division." This is because their generation did not experience separation from their families nor the war itself. Unification is something that should happen someday, but in reality right now, education and employment are the most important things occupying young people’s minds. 

However, the generation that has the opportunity to make unification happen is our youth today.“So - tong” is a small gathering composed of young South Korean and North Korean defectors who are now living in South Korea and are university students. The South Korean students used to be irresponsible and selfish when they faced the unification issue. Now they are hoping to promote unification by producing a music video about North and South Koreans and the Korean diaspora.Until now films about North Korea mostly show situations of us as the strong verses them as the weak, creating sympathy. 

Since we were use to observing our kindred on the other side of the 38th parallel with sympathetic glances, it was hard for us to understand them in the perspective of a friend. The feeling of pity and sympathy became one of the main causes for South Korean young people to feel burdened about unity.So, people from South, North Korea and Koreans scattered all over the world will sing our original song together in order to promote understanding. We will spread the message that unification is not about the strong helping the weak to build one nation, but it is about all Koreans shaping their future together as one people.
